I am a lifelong asker of questions, with boundless curiosity for how things work, and a desire to dream up new possibilities.

Can you tell us about yourself?

Hi! I’m Rachel. I live in Montrose, Colorado, 40 miles as the crow flies from my hometown of Nucla where I spent my formative years on a small family cattle ranch. I am the fifth generation of my family to be in a relationship with this little corner of the world, and I am incredibly grateful to call the Uncompahgre, San Miguel and Dolores River watersheds home.

I’ve lived, worked and sought education off the beaten path.  I am a lifelong asker of questions, with boundless curiosity for how things work, and a desire to dream up new possibilities.  I have deep personal and professional experience with what becomes possible when I say yes to the nudge within and take a leap into the unknown.  I know today that both change and healing happen in the present.

I enjoy having my hands in the dirt, spending time with rivers, and inventing meals out of what I can find in my kitchen. I have practiced yoga for 20+ years, have had a meditation practice for 18+ years, and am currently a novice ballet student.

What motivated you to become a coach?

In my previous professional roles as a community organizer, supervisor and organizational leader, coaching was one of my favorite parts of the job. Coaching has also made a significant impact on my own spiritual and professional growth. I’ve experienced moments in the coaching relationship when a spark of insight has opened up all kinds of new possibilities or has made super clear the next right path. When my life circumstances changed in 2023 and I made the decision to leave full-time employment, I knew I wanted coaching to be part of what I was offering in the world. I’ve long had a natural affinity for the craft, but felt called to go deeper and seek formal training and credentials.

What services do you offer?

I provide leadership and executive coaching, facilitation, training and capacity building services to social impact organizations. I coach individuals, teams, and organizations to skillfully relate to themselves and others. I create value for my clients by offering thoughtful & strategic partnership focused on leveraging the power of a learning culture.  My current offerings include personal leadership coaching, meeting and retreat planning & facilitation and strategic capacity assessment & planning support.  I’m exploring some new offerings in 2025. Folks can check out my Work with Me page on my website to learn more and get the latest info as things evolve!

My superpowers as a coach are awareness, deep listening and asking powerful, strategic questions.

What are your core values and how do you

approach coaching?

My core values include a sense of place & belonging, integrity (of word and self), community, and service. Striving to act responsibly, be trustworthy, and create value are my guiding principles in life and work.

I employ an action oriented, values aligned and behavior based approach to my coaching practice. I partner with clients to tap the wellspring of knowledge and agency that already exists within, supporting them to learn, move forward in action, and realize their goals.

My superpowers as a coach are awareness, deep listening and asking powerful, strategic questions. My coaching style is intuitive, thought provoking, and attentive. I bring a settled, open, compassionate presence.

I deeply appreciated the cohort model and the ICFE team did a great job of creating a true learning community...

What was it like being an IFCE student?

In my experience, the IFCE coaching course struck just the right balance between ensuring that my foundational coaching skills are grounded in ICF core competencies, and inviting me to explore, deepen and find confidence in my coaching magic.

I deeply appreciated the cohort model and the ICFE team did a great job of creating a true learning community with multiple ways to engage in peer to peer learning.  The experiential nature of the supported peer coaching and the opportunity to both coach and observe coaching in class were indispensable and really grounded theory in practice.

I also appreciated the well-thought out business development module.  Even though I had already launched my business before enrolling in the course, and had many components in place, this module helped me take things to the next level.  I continually return to my promotional package when drafting proposals or new coaching agreements.

And, like all of us, I continue to navigate the tidal waters of life, grateful for practices and people that keep me grounded when I get tossed about.

What have you been up to since graduation?

I continue to coach on a regular basis, refining my craft and celebrating the magic of insight.  I invested my fellowship award in some additional professional development to deepen a core part of my coaching practice and become certified in Daniel Goleman’s Foundational & Relational Skills of Emotional Intelligence. I’m slowly growing my coaching practice, getting the word out to my network and bringing on a couple of new clients.

And, like all of us, I continue to navigate the tidal waters of life, grateful for practices and people that keep me grounded when I get tossed about.

Engage in the material with an open mind and heart and see where it takes you!

What advice would you give to individuals thinking about becoming a coach?

If you’re thinking about becoming a coach, there’s a good chance it comes from a place of being called into something.  And it may not be what you think.  I would encourage you to listen to the nudge within, engage in the material with an open mind and heart and see where it takes you!

On a more pointed and practical note, I highly recommend planning in advance to go the extra mile and create a promotional package.  This process led me to deeper clarity on what I bring to the work I’m offering in the world, helped me make a real plan to grow my business, and pushed me to create foundational marketing materials I use all the time. It was well worth the extra effort.
